Mobilities and Transport
Urban residents are constantly on the move, shuttling between home, work, shopping, and leisure activities on foot as well as by bicycle, public transport, and car. More sustainable mobility patterns need to be developed to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, support economic development, and ensure a safe and enjoyable life for all. Also, the social, cultural, and political aspects of movements, transport and mobilities are important to analyse, which is done in this focus area.
This focus area engages with mobilities and transport issues ranging from individual travel habits to long-term infrastructure projects. In all cases, there is a need to ensure that the changes to mobility patterns result in enhanced accessibility while creating more a liveable built environment.
